Stargate: Atlantis is the spin-off of the Sci-Fi Channel's most popular series, Stargate SG-1, which follows four explorers of distant worlds, who travel via an interplanetary portal, the Stargate. In this series, the crew is assigned to a secret base left by the Ancients (builders of the Stargates), which is found in the most unlikely of places: On Earth, in Antarctica, buried within the ruins of the legendary civilization of Atlantis. The implications of this discovery leads the team to a distant universe, in the Pegasus galaxy, where they find a primitive human civilization threatened by a sinister new Stargate threat, the Wraith.
The Stargate Atlantis mission is headed by diplomat Dr. Elizabeth Weir, played by actress Torri Higginson, who is backed up with the O'Neill-like pilot, Major John Sheppard, played by actor Joe Flanigan, a courageous and gifted pilot. Rainbow Sun Francks plays Lieutenant Aiden Ford, Sheppard's second-in-command, and David Hewlett, already known to SG-1 fans, continues his role as astrophysicist Dr. Rodney McKay. Finally, the shows beautiful, exotic, and strong-willed alien woman, Teyla Emmagan, is played by actress Rachel Luttrell. |
