Synopsis: How many wives are sick
and tired of their husbands' old, smelly cars parked in the driveway?
How many neighbors cringe when they see a heap on cinder blocks in the
backyard? Who hasn't inherited a clunker with the hopes of fixing it up
one day? Now's the time to make those changes happen and make "Christine"
into pristine!
In Overhaulin', a car is the new star when TLC debuts its new series
beginning Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at 9 PM (ET/PT). Six additional new
episodes debut each Tuesday night after the premiere.
The twist, though, is that co-hosts Chris Jacobs and Courtney Hansen,
double as stealth assailants, repo men, photographers, thieves and other
pranksters to lure the keys away from the unsuspecting car owner, while
auto designing legend Chip Foose and his crack team of fabricators and
engineers, perform surgery on the vehicle.
With the help of an accomplice (the owner's father, son, girlfriend or
co-worker, for example), the Overhaulin' team finds a creative
way to separate the car from its owner - whether through a fake impound,
photo shoot, or other trickery. During the week, the team then guts, refurbishes,
renovates and paints the owner's bland or junky auto into a unique custom
car.
The Overhaulin' cameras follows the twists and turns of the parallel
process of both keeping the car away from its (sometimes surly!) owner
– and the creative ways Chris and Courtney manage to do it - while following
the renovation process of the vehicle.
As the car owner is inevitably fretting about the car's whereabouts and
its safe return home - captured on tape - viewers will get an insider's
treat when auto guru Chip Foose leads viewers through the vehicle's transformation,
explaining what's being done to the engine, body, wheels, interior, metal
and more. And with the help of our accomplice, Overhaulin' learns
what specific customizations will make the owner truly love his or her
new wheels.
In the final stretch of the program, the secret is finally revealed to
the owner and the keys to the new set of wheels are returned. Will they
hate or love it? All that's left is to get behind the wheel and drive
off into the sunset, right?
